SONGCRAFT - TIM WHEELER, PETER WILSON, NEIL HANNON

Tim Wheeler & Neil HannonAs the Ulster Hall geared up for the "Do you remember the first time" concert we brought together 3 of Northern Ireland's finest musical practitioners for a unique one hour Q and A on the art of writing a song. Tim Wheeler is the main songwriter in Ash, whose tracks have catalogued the last 15 years of a generation of people in the UK and beyond; Neil Hannon is the erudite composer and man behind The Divine Comedy who tips a hat towards everything from cricket to public transport; and Peter Wilson has single-handedly brought baroque-infused melodies into the public's consciousness with his alter-ego Duke Special. The format followed "Any Questions" in that we invited each audience member to submit a question in advance.

PETER HOOK (NEW ORDER – JOY DIVISION)

Peter HookTo tap into the public consciousness once is fortunate. Twice is almost unheard of. With Joy Division and New Order, Peter Hook has found himself at the centre of two bands whose musical palate influenced everything from Disco to (post) punk. From being remixed by Quincy Jones to recording with Martin Hannet, Hook's story is like no other. He talked about a lifetime in music, and took questions about what is a pioneering and generation-defining body of work.

DANIEL PEMBERDaniel PembertonTON

Daniel Pemberton is the BAFTA nominated composer behind many of the themes and sounds you hear everyday on TV. His credits include everything from cult comedy series (Peep Show, Suburban Shootout) to videogames (LittleBIGPlanet) and mainstream reality shows (Hells Kitchen, Great British Menu, Bad Lads Army). Whilst Daniel has done many things - co founder of the infamous Shoreditch Twat fanzine, journalist for i-D magazine, fashion show music director for designers such as Vivienne Westwood - it is perhaps through this eclectic soundtrack work that he has had the biggest impact. In a unique hour long event Daniel talked about the process of TV music creation in relation to random words on cue-cards. Think "Whose Line Is It Anyway" meets "The Culture Show".
