Showcasing

MIDEM '09

In January 2009 NIMIC hosted the 'New music from Northern Ireland' event at MIDEM, Europe's largest music industry networking and showcasing conference. First on the bill was a mesmerising performance by Duke Special. Stripped down to an atmospheric two piece band, Peter Wilson silenced the capacity audience with heartbreaking and humorous baroque torchlight songs.

A tough act to follow? Northern Irish three piece General Fiasco didn't think so. Easily justifying the hype that's made them one of the UK's hottest unsigned acts, they ripped the venue apart with spiky pop-rock such as the unforgetttable 'Rebel Get By'.

Headlining were Fighting With Wire, recently signed to Atlantic Records. They delivered a standout performance in front of Northern Irish business delegates such as No Dancing Records and Smalltown America Records, who also attended MIDEM to network with their peer groups nationally and internationally.

"Our attendance at MIDEM '09 resulted in an immediate upturn in sales, I have had multiple orders for new titles from global importers and record distributors. Having representation at the market, showcasing our acts and creating new business relationships, improves the perception of our label at both indie and corporate levels. For any new music business MIDEM is an invaluable resource of information, inspiration and financial opportunity."
