Final Music: It the Business Seminars


Part One - What It Takes

Friday 25th September

2.30pm until 4.15pm

Oh Yeah Music Centre, Gordon Street Belfast

The final events in NIMIC's three year ‘Music: It's the Business' programme will feature some of Northern Ireland's most successful new creative music entrepreneurs.

The first panel event addresses how to develop a career as a creative in the music business and features successful songwriter/artist Joe Echo who has recently co-written with Paul Oakenfold and Madonna, internationally renowned dance/pop producer and DJ Micky Modelle who has remixed tracks for Pink and Vengaboys, and virtuoso rock and blues guitarist Simon McBride who has played with artists such as Slash and Sweet Savage.

The second part of the event addresses how to make your music business a success and will be presented by record label owner, artist manager, artist/songwriter and music entrepreneur Andrew Ferris of Smalltown America Records - home to Fighting with Wire, And So I Watch You From Afar and many other artists.

Part Two - An introduction to PPL

Friday 25th September

PPL (Phonographic Performance Limited) is a not-for-profit company and music industry service organisation which licenses recorded music and music videos for public performance, broadcast and new media use. PPL's public performance licences allow thousands of clubs, shops, pubs, restaurants, bars and other music users across the UK to play sound recordings and music videos in public. The income generated is then allocated and paid to PPL's 3,400 UK record company members and 38,000 UK performer members. This presentation will be made by PPL Director and highly experienced music industry professional Keith Harris. Over the past three years there have been 27 business skills attended by over 2,000 participants. These events were presented by more than 100 guest speakers in a range of venues across Northern Ireland.
